Dental Care

YOU ONLY NEED TO TAKE CARE OF THE TEETH YOU WANT TO KEEP!

Did you know that 80% of dogs and 70% of cats over the age of 3 already have some form of periodontal disease? Or that bacteria under the gumline can work their way into the blood stream and cause life-threatening heart, kidney and liver disease? YUK!

The good news is, with proper care, the most common form of dental disease in pets can often be prevented! Proper care includes frequent brushing by you at home (ideally, daily but at least three times weekly), regular (at least yearly) professional dental exams and professional cleanings/dental x-rays as needed. How do you know if your pet already has dental disease? Look for any of these common warning signs:

  • red, swollen gums
  • bad breath
  • loose, broken, discolored or missing teeth
  • pain, swelling or blood in or around the mouth
  • decreased appetite or activity
  • weight loss

If you notice any of these signs, please call us right away! The sooner we evaluate your pet, the sooner we can diagnose and address the problem and the sooner we can get your best friend feeling better. Just like with people, dental disease in pets can be painful!
